The majority of the Grand Duchy's prison population is housed at the Schrassig penitentiary centre, which currently has 284 inmates.

In response to a parliamentary question submitted by CSV MP Laurent Mosar, justice minister Elisabeth Margue confirmed that 580 men and 31 women are currently being held in Luxembourg's prison facilities.

284 people are in Schrassig prison, while 260 are currently at the Uerschterhaff centre.

The majority of inmates are aged between 30 and 50. The most common nationalities are Luxembourgish, Portuguese, and French. Theft is the most common crime, accounting for 187 incarcerations, closely followed by cases related to drugs, and homicide with 91 cases. 39 people have been imprisoned for violent robbery, and 34 for rape.

12 people are serving life sentences in Luxembourg.
